As Refugee Week Malta 2025 approaches, we asked residents in Mosta a heartfelt question: If you had to leave Malta, what would you miss the most? 

Their answers painted a picture of belonging, golden beaches, countryside walks, village feasts, the sunshine, and Malta’s unique rhythm of life. But above all, one word kept returning: family.

Whether it’s cousins, children, or grandparents, the thought of leaving loved ones behind touches everyone.

When asked what one thing they’d take with them, the answers were just as personal: photo albums, a cat, even a treasured book. Some spoke of carrying their culture, memories, and identity.
