"The Spicy Bouillon!" This could be the title of a good movie, but it's better than that: it's the unavoidable third half after a well-started "2:0".
For the uninitiated, 3rd half, bouillon and 2:0 are terms that sound like Chinese. But it's the jargon -imported from Cameroon- of the Sunday soccer matches that now unite many young Africans in Malta.
After each game of soccer, colloquially known as 2:0, the players are served a large pot of well-seasoned, spicy meat broth, accompanied either by potatoes, plantains or boiled manioc.
In Cameroon, 2:0 enthusiasts have a favorite spot after each match: a local restaurant is commandeered to take care of the cooking.
In Malta, the men decided to take matters into their own hands, and failing to find an African restaurant capable of rendering their idea of broth, a volunteer offered to prepare it: Etoa Manga, an attacker by trade, was Chef du Jour.
On the menu: Well-spiced broth.
Ingredients: beef skin, beef meat, oil, various spices, chili pepper.
Side dishes: potatoes, Plantain, Cassava.
All washed down with a few beers.
The August 18, 2024 match was held at Mosta stadium.
