YouthPass is a certificate that acknowledges the learning outcomes gained through project activities. YouthPass provides a way to reflect on learning and encourage people to reflect on learning goals and their needs. It’s the principle of non-formal education and learning.
YouthPass is supported by Erasmus+: Youth in Action program and the European Solidarity Corps. To obtain your YouthPass, you must be involved in one of these programs. It means that you will work as a volunteer in another country for a few months. At the end, you will receive a certificate for your participation where it will mention the description of your activities.
It allows you to learn practices and not really theory. As a participant, you will learn how to work with a team, you will discover a new culture and you will increase your chances to find a job. YouthPass is a process, it’s not something that you can obtain after two or three weeks, it takes a few months. You have to be prepared, to think about your project, to meet your mentor, etc.
At the end of your project, you will have acquired eight competences. But to gain competence, there are three steps. First of all, you must think about something you really like to do. After that, you must obtain information about it to have knowledge. It can be with books, videos, podcasts or something else. Finally, you must practice to improve your skills. It’s only by this way that a competence develops.
One of the competences that you will develop is the Multilingual Competence. During your project, you will be with other European participants who may not speak your language. You will have to work with them and to develop a way to communicate with them.
The Personal, Social and Learning to Learn Competence is the ability to work with others, to reflect on oneself and to show empathy.
The more you get interested in politics, civic, economic and social life, the more you will develop Citizenship Competence.
It is by taking initiatives, networking that you will develop the Entrepreneurship Competence. It means that you’re able to manage projects.
The Competence in Cultural Awareness and Expression comes by having respect for different cultures.
If you can communicate online, to create digital content, you will develop the Digital Competence.
The Mathematical Competence and Competence in Science, Technology, Engineering is the ability to use mathematical insights to solve problems, to use formulas and graphs but also to deal with research.
The Literacy Competence is the way you express yourself, you interact with people and you use language in social media for example.
