A conference concluded the 'First-Step project: Online Pre-Departure Integration Measures' (PDIMs), whose goal is to 'enable migrants to fully utilise their skills and abilities, become an asset to the country, and prevent labour exploitation.' This process involves pre-departure integration, so that migrants are informed 'about their rights, obligations, and opportunities in Malta'.
During the conference held on December 9th, important aspects of the platform were shared with the public. Elements shared included a better understanding of the needs and resources to build a solid platform that include all aspects for a good preparation before and after migrating to Malta.
Some case studies that led to a mapping report that analyses the local context and provides recommendations for the development of PDIMs. Maltese authorities can better understand the support required for its tailored implementation.
This conference provided participants with an overview of the platform set up to help in the integration as a two-way process. This platform, which optimizes migrant integration, was created based on contributions and feedback from stakeholders and migrant communities.
In addition, to enabling language learning and cultural integration, the platform allows applicants to track the progress of their permit applications.
The platform will be available soon.
The project was implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM - Closing event of the project First Step: Online Pre-Departure | IOM Malta), in cooperation with the Directorate of Human Rights (DRH), the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM), and Human Rights.
