Maltese culture part.2

Nikita Patrigeon

After the independence of Malta in 1964 the people decided to keep the British system of public administration, education and legislation.

Currently a republican country since 1974, all citizens can have their issues identified and heard.

Furthermore, in 2004 they joined the European Union and few years later the Eurozone.

Elections take place every 5 years and it’s an important event during which all the population is involved and it is taken very seriously.

We can distinguish two major political parties which are the Christian democratic Nationalist Party and the social democratic Labour Party.

Few months before the election every weekend, a gathering is organised by each party leader in order to incentivise its supporters and win support and votes.

On the election day, everybody is glued to the television screen to follow the event.
